It won’t be long now and the kids are back to school. That typically means that the care free days of summer are beyond us as we transition back to our ‘normal’ routines.
Which makes this a great time to incorporate lifestyle changes!
Making lunches? Add fruits and veggies instead of puddings and snack bars. Avoid cold meats with high fats and preservatives. And plan for healthy snacks instead of searching for something quick and easy later.
For the adults, avoiding the mid-morning and mid-afternoon energy meltdowns is key, as we tend to reach for sugary pastries or high calorie coffee drinks to get us over the hump. A great solution to this stems from a lean source of protein, 15-30 grams, with first thing in the morning (egg white omelette, protein shake, yogurt/low fat cottage cheese, etc.). This will help to keep you satiated and energized, avoiding the crash cravings that add extra calories to our day.
Back to school season is also a great time to add routine exercise and physical activity.
Why now? Why not!
