Meet Dr. Nicola Stone
Chiropractor
Dr. Nicola Stone grew up in ForFar, a small town approx. 20 minutes outside Smiths Falls. After graduating from high school, she attended McMaster University where she obtained her Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) degree, with a minor in Psychology. While she initially envisioned herself working in the field of forensic pathology, through volunteering at the McMaster Hospital, her aspirations changed. She realized that she enjoyed working directly with patients and wanted to pursue a career where she could reduce pain and dysfunction and guide patients in their overall health and wellness. While Dr. Stone had never been to a chiropractor herself, she knew many people who had benefited from chiropractic treatment and found the concept and approach very intriguing. She subsequently attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in North York and graduated in 2014 with a greater appreciation for body mechanics, an understanding of how altered movements can lead to dysfunction and pain, and the knowledge and skill to correct/improve movements to reduce pain and disability.
In addition to her school-based education, Dr. Stone has taken additional courses in treating pregnant patients, assessing and treating concussions (certified through SHIFT Concussion, level 2), Activator technique, Graston technique, personal training, and yoga instruction. While her treatment approach primarily focuses on manual therapy, Dr. Stone recognizes the benefits of assistive devices and has been trained in the assessment and fitting of various medical products, including compression stockings, custom-made orthotics, and custom-fit braces.
Since graduation, Dr. Stone has practiced primarily in Milton and Paris, Ontario where she developed her skills by treating a multitude of patients, ranging in age from 5-95 years old. By employing an evidence-based treatment approach, she utilizes diversified adjustments, instrument-assisted adjustments, mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, modalities, and rehabilitative exercises to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, including postural issues, sprain/strain injuries, disc injuries, and headaches.
Coming Back to Eastern Ontario
After working in Central Ontario for the past ten years, Dr. Stone has returned home to Eastern Ontario, where she and her partner have purchased their forever home. She is looking forward to re-engaging with nature, adopting the slower-paced lifestyle that rural Ontario has to offer, and establishing a new practice out of which to treat patients. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Stone enjoys gardening and canning, baking, reading, hiking, foraging, and practicing yoga.
